INSECTS

In the world of silence and wings lies a magic we often overlook.
Insects are tiny, yet essential – weaving the threads of balance our world depends on.
These paintings are a quiet tribute to these delicate guardians of life.

SOLITARY BEES MATTER TOO

This painting was created as a free continuation of my first piece from the Insect series, titled Bees Matter. Both works respond to the increasingly urgent issue of insect decline – not only of well-known pollinators like honeybees, but of many other species that are often overlooked.

With this artwork, I want to draw attention to the essential role of solitary bees in natural pollination. Unlike honeybees, they are able to fly even in colder weather – just like bumblebees – and tirelessly move from flower to flower, providing an immense benefit to nature.

It's likely that I'll return to this theme in the future – it carries deep meaning for me. Through this painting, I hope to remind others to cherish every little insect that visits our gardens and landscapes. They are not just here for the flowers – they are here for us as well.

ELEPHANT HAWK - MOTH

My favorite moth – the Elephant Hawk-Moth – served as the inspiration for this painting, which is also the very first I created in this format within the series. Interestingly, although this species is nocturnal, its colors are so vibrant and lively that it might not seem so at first glance.

The painting stands out with its rich palette – the warm background tones harmonize beautifully with the main figure, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The overall impression is warm and uplifting. It's a true "energy booster" that brightens up any space.

This piece fits well in both neutral interiors and colorful ones. It shines especially in spaces with warm tones – light wood, beige, rich yellows, or soft vanilla shades. In the end, it all comes down to how each viewer feels and connects with it.

RED DRAGONFLY

A few words about the symbolism of the dragonfly:

In many cultures, the dragonfly is seen as a sacred and extraordinary creature. In Japan, it is a symbol of courage and strength; in parts of Asia, it is considered a messenger of happiness and joy. Dragonflies often represent rebirth, renewal, and hope after difficult life events or great loss.

This fascinating species of insect has existed for hundreds of millions of years – long before the time of the dinosaurs.

Like all paintings in this series, Red Dragonfly tells a story about the deep interconnectedness of all living things – in nature, and even in the universe. Every action has its reaction, and some natural laws remain unchanging. The state of our environment – soil, forests, groundwater – directly affects the presence of insect life, and with it, the balance of entire ecosystems.

"Insects," as I lovingly call them, are endlessly fascinating to me. So small – and yet so vital to life on this planet. I once read that the extinction of the honeybee would have devastating consequences for humanity. And while other pollinators exist, they too are sensitive to the widespread use of chemicals, especially in agriculture.

I feel a deep respect, affection, and love for them. They are my allies, my quiet companions, and a force of balance in the world. This is why I honor them – not only through the design of a special pollinator-friendly garden (see the documentary by Micek Studio), but also through this dedicated art series.

More paintings on this theme are already in progress – most of them based on species that visit my garden regularly. I consider it a gift to be able to observe them, photograph them, and most of all: to marvel at their presence. Time and again, I find myself deeply moved by how extraordinary they truly are.

CARPENTER BEE - PURPLE

Carpenter Bee – The Solitary One

This solitary bee holds a truly special place in my heart. I often encounter her in my garden, especially around my favorite butterfly bush. Sometimes I watch as many as five of them gathering on one plant – it's a mesmerizing and calming sight every time.

Capturing her presence on canvas was a deeply personal journey. This is the only painting for which I recorded the entire creative process – from the very first brushstrokes to the final varnish. Watching her slowly emerge, take shape, and come to life under my hands was an incredibly intimate and emotional experience.

This piece is profoundly important to me. The carpenter bee became not just a subject, but a symbol of connection with nature, patience, and stillness. This painting carries a part of my heart – and that is why its value reflects far more than just its visual form.

ROSE CHAFER

My beloved garden companion. In 2022, there were so many of them in my garden that capturing their presence on canvas felt completely natural. They especially loved to rest among the lilacs, gathering strength to visit as many blossoms as possible throughout my garden.

At the end of 2023, while going through old drawings, sketches, and cutouts from elementary school – and even kindergarten – I came across a picture of a rose chafer. That moment reminded me how some themes take years to ripen within us. And when the time is right, they resurface – fuller, deeper, and ready to shine. Not only on canvas, but also on exhibitions..

MEADOW BUMBEBEE

The inspiration for this painting came from a very special species of bumblebee that visited my front garden a few years ago, hovering among the delicate flowers of speedwell. I was so captivated by its appearance that I reached out to a few expert groups to learn more about its exact type.

It turned out to be a meadow bumblebee... just like the meadow flowers I've always loved – the ones I used to gather into wild, untamed bouquets. That memory, along with the beauty of simple, vibrant nature, found its way into this painting – in its colors, its flow, and its quiet gentleness.

BLUE BEE

I enjoy change, so I decided to try painting a bee – a creature known for its distinct coloring. I complemented it with my favorite phosphorescent pink to give it a vibrant, energetic touch.

This painting captures the bee in its natural environment. As a symbol of diligence and productivity, the bee is shown in detailed form, highlighting its delicate wings and beautiful body. The color palette evokes a summery atmosphere and the natural connection between bees and flowers. This scene serves as a reminder of how essential bees are to our ecosystem – and how deeply we depend on their pollination.

ATICUS ATLAS - ATLAS MOTH

This painting is a tribute to one of the largest and most beautiful moths in the world – the Atlas moth. With its characteristic cobra-shaped wing tips and rich reddish-brown coloring, it appears almost otherworldly.

The composition is set within concentric layers of color – from warm yellows and oranges to deep greens and blues. These shades symbolize energy, life force, and the balance between light and shadow. The painting can be perceived as a protective symbol, a guide through transformation and growth.

Its square format, turned diagonally to form a diamond, enhances the visual impact – evoking a mandala, a portal, or rising wings. This piece does not merely decorate a space – it radiates and interacts with it.
